Ugh. You ever have one of those ideas that you just ADORE the characters and concept of, but you have the goddamnedest time trying to put it into any sort of intelligent media? That's me right now.
I've been dying to rewrite the story for Xen0ph0bia for over a year now, but I just can't seem to get a story for it that I like. I've tried to just make them normal college boys dealing with Luke's dual personalities, but that was a no-go in the end. Then I tried making it to where they were magic users of a sort (White Mages, Black Mages, Elemental Mages, Technomages, and the like) and that Luke was the physical reincarnation of Lucifer, Nate was the physical incarnation of God (sort of...more like an extension), and Dorian was Azrael the Angel of Death. Too complex, twisted, and convoluted for me...
So now, I've tried to think about something a bit less complicated and a bit more familiar. I had, at one time, a storyline/RPG involving psychics who were systematically captured and experimented on, turning them into "perfect, controllable soldiers" who eventually escaped and started a revolution. (I don't suppose anyone remembers the short-lived Zodiac Psychics RPG?) Anywho, it's much more dark (in my opinion) and more realistic than the sorcerers thing without being as boring as the "normal" thing.
The characters themselves would remain essentially the same, with the exception of Dorian getting a new look. As much as I love the old one, he's become one of the more popular of the three main characters and I just think he needs a bit of a makeover. Definitely a new hairstyle. His old one is the one people know automatically, but that bowl cut with the flip is a pain to draw consistently...Luke would pretty much look the same as he did in the last batch of roughs I drew (I'll try to get examples up soon) with maybe one or two changes. Nate hasn't changed at all, and he's going to be the one character who is psychic that doesn't KNOW he's a psychic. He'll find it out gradually, then basically be mind-fucked by either Luke or Dorian, who will abandon him for a time. As for Damien, his role and the reason for his "death" have been changed as well.
I'm in the process of actually WRITING OUT the story, starting with the prologue, so I can STOP redrawing them everytime I make a change...

The fluorescent lights above his bed in the psychiatric ward burned into his retinas as he stared blankly at the ceiling. He was aware. He could think. He could dream. His days and nights were endless, melting together beneath the light of those humming fluorescent bulbs. Time was irrelevant.
He was dead to the world.
His name was Damien Turner, a young man who had at seventeen reportedly been driven mad by his lover and overdosed on diamorphine to end the terrible nightmares that he suffered. That was the story his friends and adoptive family had been told. The doctors at St. Matthias Psychiatric Ward knew the truth; Damien had been used.
Four years prior, young Damien's lover Lucas Marshall was marked as having psionic abilities, telepathy and telekinesis primarily, and they wanted him for experimentation to harness and duplicate his abilities. However, the young man was more skilled in the use of his powers than they had expected, and he foiled their attempts at kidnapping him again and again. He became paranoid and reclusive, only leaving to go to classes and returning home directly afterward. He was impossible to pin down for more than a moment or two. They needed some way to break him, make him easier to apprehend...
They looked to Damien, his boyfriend and twin brother to Luke's dorm-mate Dorian, as their bait.
Damien was an easy target. The boy had no special abilities and he was psychically weak in a fight. He was easily subdued. The false suicide note, the blood scrawled on the walls spelling out words that made no sense when strung together, the trashed apartment...All had been fabricated by the strike team that had been hired by the research laboratory that was stationed in Alaska.
Notes:
(they are looking for Luke, but the person they SHOULD be looking for it Dorian. Dorian is a "demon", a being with great psychokinetic abilities far surpassing normal human beings, even the most skilled.
